Hello, I'm a Dutch classically trained painter and drawer. Born into a family of artists, my talent was nourished and stimulated from early childhood. I studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (The Netherlands), Antwerp (Belgium) and Athens (Greece). I have been holding exhibitions in many cities throughout Europe (Italy, The Netherlands, and Belgium) and Asia (Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Korea) and have been teaching painting for over 12 years.
My drawings are inspired by Michelangelo, Kathe Kollwitz, Andrea del Sarto and also Dooijenwaard. I let dancers dance on music in my studio and draw these dancers while in motion with compressed chalk on white paper. Chalk because it’s an ‘honest’ medium: the resulting drawing is either good or bad – you can’t change or erase parts.
I have been working with dancers my whole life, because I’m inspired by the movement of the body. Everyone has their own ‘language’ when they dance, influenced and shaped by cultural backgrounds, but primarily it is an expression of the emotional involvement with the music. I love to work with the geometric forms from the dance.
